Balancing a Career in Consulting and Family Life
What stands out for me at Vendigital is the support and flexibility offered around work and family life. Previously I thought working in consultancy meant I would need to make a compromise between work and family, with a stigma that it’s long hours and constant working away. Don’t get me wrong, the work is challenging but at Vendigital this isn’t at the expense of my family. No two days are the same, but what I do ensure is I fit my work around my wife and 2 year old son.
As a Managing Consultant I’m responsible for the successful day to day delivery of client projects. Typically, I work two to three days at home and the rest visiting client sites or going into the London office. I normally start the day cycling my son to nursery before jumping on a train to London or joining the daily kick off meeting back at home. At Vendigital we strike a good balance between time on the client site and working from home. There’s no pressure to be the first in and last out to give the visible impression you’re working hard. Vendigital recognises hard work through results. I am not looking for a 9 till 5 job, some days leaving the house at 6am for an important client meeting or getting home late after a team social. Other days I might take time out to go to the playground with my son and more often than not I am able to get home in time to relax with my family and put my son to bed.
What’s important to me is the challenge and variety the work offers whilst knowing Vendigital encourages a healthy work life balance.
